Brazil

Brazil is the economic engine of South America and Germany’s most important trade partner among the Mercosur states. Vice versa, Germany is the most important trade partner in Europe for Brazil. In 2017, the trade volume between both countries reached 16.5 billion euros. The extensive trade relations between Germany and Brazil are shaped by exports of German industrial products, like pharmaceuticals, automotive components, fertilizers, measuring instruments and medical equipment. German imports from Brazil consist primarily of commodities such as coffee beans, soy flour, soy beans, iron and copper, but also includes a substantial share of industrial products such as combustion engines, electric motors, automotive parts and metal products.

Within the framework of the Global Project Quality Infrastructure, Brazil and Germany have been engaging in a technical and political dialogue on quality infrastructure since 2017, with the aim to reduce technical barriers to trade and to improve consumer protection. The political partner of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in Brazil is the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services (MDIC). Standardisation, conformity assessment, accreditation and market surveillance are the key topics of the dialogue.
