The Indo-German discussion paper “Securing the Internet of Things Together” was released at the 7th Annual Meeting of the Indo-German Working Group on Quality Infrastructure on 16 January 2020 in New Delhi. The discussion paper was developed by the Global Project Quality Infrastructure (GPQI) of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) in cooperation with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the Data Security Council of India (DSCI).

In September 2019, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) established a new technical committee dedicated to standardisation for smart manufacturing, or Industry 4.0. The new committee is part of the Electronics and Information Technology Department (LTD) of BIS and mirrors the Systems Committee (SyC) on smart manufacturing at the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

The Sino-German Technical Expert Groups “IT-Security” and “Functional Safety” came together in Kassel to discuss recent developments regarding security and safety standards in Germany and China. They also revised the drafts of two white papers which are dedicated to these topics.

Around 30 participants from the government, subordinate organisations, and the private sector discussed the role of standards and certification for the security of Internet of Things (IoT) devices at an Indo-German expert workshop on 16 May 2019 in Mumbai. The expert workshop took place at the side-lines of it-sa India, India’s IT security expo and conference.
